"Die Amerikaner kommen" (the Americans are coming) political cartoon by August Roeseler showing a parade--led by a limousine bearing Americans (with real money to spend) followed by a German farmer driving a tractor pulling bags full of almost-worthless German currency. The hyperinflation referred to in the art occurred in 1922-1923, when Americans (or anyone else with real money to spend) would be treated like royalty. But the Postkarte was resurrected into use during the depression that was raging there (and elsewhere) in 1932, when again anyone with real money to spend would have been most welcome. Postkarte mailed August 2 1932 from Münich to New York City. Message partially reads 'This is how we were welcomed into Germany'. Signs in the art include: 'We speak English', 'Welcome to Germany', 'Welcome to the Beergarden, etc. The top & bottom edges were scissors cut. $10.00 gppa(r)n NEW / UUSI / NOU

"Gruss vom / Stabenfest Nördlingen" showing a girl's school marching with flags in front of the Hotel Krone; unused color post card, Chr. Strauss 2462, back paper browning evenly with age (circa 1910), good edges. Stabenfest is a local Bavarian celebration in May that dates back into the 15th century. All school children & their teachers march in a parade with staffs (Staben) decorated with flowers, ribbons & flags. For some reason it is an uncommon subject for postcards. $20.00 bfggp

Formed from 3 smaller fraternal organizations in 1904, they eventually had other similar groups merge with them. Later, during World War II, the Scout Young Camp led the campaign to remove all Japanese from Western Oregon. Uncaptioned real photo postcard showing a horse-drawn flower-decorated cart full of dressed-up children, obviously for a parade, bearing the advertising sign 'HOFFSTODT'S / CITY GREEN HOUSES', sepia-tone post card from Mossholder's Studio in Shelby Ohio, light browning of the paper. The Mansfield Telephone Company serviced Shelby; its 1902 directory for Shelby lists W. A. Hoffstodt's residence at 22 Sharon. Push-pin damage has taken two small chunks out of the bottom edge (neither anywhere near the image) & just nicked the top edge twice; framing would easily obscure that difficulty. The best Richland County Ohio postcard we have ever seen.
